Everyone experiences emotional pain.
Deciding how to respond and react to that pain bears a lot of weight on the quality of our relationships and life. There are those who live their lives stuck living that emotional pain over and over, being angry with those around them who have hurt them, having developed a dependency on their own self-pity. At one time that was me. When I was years-old, I was a victim of sexual assault by someone I trusted, loved, and thought they had loved me back.
I lived with that pain for a very long time and carried the emotional pain from it into the adult years of my life. The pain started to creep into my everyday life. I started blaming my husband for every mistake he made. Day after day I would blame him for my unhappiness. This cycle can be so disruptive and it was destroying my life from the inside out. I even struggled with a decade long addiction because of the pity I had for my pain.
I spent so much time blaming everyone else for the pain I was living. The pain weakened my sense of self, depression was inevitable, and I was just a dark cloud of negativity to be around. Eventually, I knew I had to face my hurts, heal from them, and move on. Because the people who had hurt me had moved on, I was the only one suffering from the pain. In this post, I will focus on a few tips on how to overcome the emotional pain in your life.
